Baby Frida was 2 weeks old for her first photo session… New parents are generally pretty anxious as to how the babe will be on the day of their session…Will they sleep, cry, just want to be cuddled, will they want to be fed the whole time? And so many more questions. Well I can tell you now, those babies know what’s up. They know something is happening that isn’t the usual. And yes, they generally cry, they want to be cuddled and they want to be fed. The 90 minute Newborn Photography session I offer for babes takes into account all of this. If babe is unsettled, then Mumma’s and Pappa’s can cuddle and feed until babe is happy and content again. Of course it goes without saying that sometimes the babes just don’t want any part of it! And that’s ok too, we will just get what we can get 🙂
I’ll tell you a little secret…. Baby Frida was one of those babes. She just didn’t want any part of it, and can you really tell? NOPE. I just let Mum and Dad settle her to whenever she became upset, had a few feeds and she eventually drifted off to sleep towards the end of the session.
The key is not get stressed when things don’t go as planned when it comes to babies. This goes for everyday life, not just photo sessions too! You’ll be 30 minutes late to everything. You’ll need spare clothes incase you have a power-spewer on your hands. They’ll fart or burp at the MOST inappropriate times. They’ll want a feed right at the time you’re unloading groceries onto the counter.
When they get older, they’ll say the funniest things at the wrong times… Like during a funeral and your friend is up on the stand giving his eulogy to his father who just passed on and your two-year old see’s him and yells out his totally-not-appropriate nickname. Yeah, we had to walk out all red-faced. Or the same two-year old is driving with Grandma, who had to bump the brakes to avoid a collision, to which the two-year old yells, “Fucking hell, Grandma!”.
Watch out for those two-year olds!
Anyway… Enjoy Frida, I certainly did :).
